Eye Conditions We Treat
In addition to optometry’s already well established role of being the first line in vision care, our scope of practice has recently expanded where we now prescribe pharmaceutical agents (drugs) for the treatment of eye infection, inflammation, glaucoma and other various conditions.
Our office possesses advanced diagnostic technology which aids in diagnostic and therefore timely treatment and/or referral of ocular conditions.
A comprehensive retinal examination can also detect signs of other diseases that affect not just your eyes, but also your overall health. These include:
Diabetic Reinopanthy (DR)
• Caused by changes in blood vessels of the retina, DR is the leading cause of blindness in North America and affects nearly half of all people with diabetes.
Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
• Increased pressure in the book vessels can result in damage to look vessels in the eye.
Age Related Macula Degeneration (ARMD)
• Caused by changes int eh retina due to the body’s aging process, ARMD is the leading cause of blindness for those aged 55+ in North America.
Retinal Detachement (RD)
• Caused by severe nearsightedness or trauma, RD can also occur in patients with systemic diseases such as dates and will likely lead to permanent vision loss if not detected.
OCT Imaging
Our office is equipped with the Optos’ OCT SLO system, combining industry-leading spectral OCT imaging with a confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO) in one highly advanced instrument. Clinicians are able to both diagnose and track changes in the most complex retinal diseases and their treatments
200Dx Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imaging
Ultra-widefield digital retinal imaging is increasingly becoming a standard of care for primary eye care providers. The 200Dx technology is designed to simultaneously capture a digital image view of the retina from central pole to periphery. The images allow the screening of a primarily healthy patient base and provide two tracks in the system to support wellness and medical imaging procedures.
Conventional Retinal Imaging Technology only captures a small area of the retina at one time. With our Retinal Examination the majority of the retina is visible in one single image.
